As many of you know I'm a)always happy to celebrate and b) proudly Swedish thanks to my grandmother's influence. Luckily I got the chance to combine those two aspects of my life. We had a Swedish St. Lucia celebration on Christmas Eve. We ate pickled herring, Swedish meatballs and gravlax. We drank Glogg and Aquavit., sang songs and put a crown of candles on the girls' heads for our twist on a Swedish tradition. I made the saffron bread crown called the Lucia bread (or buns). We ate until we could eat not more. It was a beautiful evening filled with good friends happily enjoying the company. It was kids anxiously tracking Santa's route on the computer. It was a night filled with song and laughter and dance and love. It was something I would have liked to share with my grandmother.
